Since mid-2018, PDP has been contracted to New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT) as Manager of the NZ-Laos Renewable Energy Facility. We have been supporting the Government of Lao PDR to improve dam safety regulation. The work is being managed in-country by Tristan Bellingham (PDP Technical Director) and will continue until mid-2023.
Dam safety technical assistance has been delivered direct by PDP, and through projects by Damwatch Engineering Ltd and AECOM (NZ). On 17-18 September the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) held a big dam safety workshop to update stakeholders on the results of the dam safety reviews completed by Damwatch, AECOM (NZ) and others, and to summarise the progress since the Xe Pian Xe Namnoy dam failure incident in July 2018. Tristan presented the results of the Small Dam Safety Improvement project on behalf of MFAT and Damwatch.
