Our contaminated land team in Christchurch has been awarded the contract for the Detailed Site Investigation and Remedial Options Assessment for the Ocean Beach Landfill Project in Invercargill.

The project is partly funded through the Ministry for the Environment’s (MfE) Contaminated Sites Remediation Fund (CSRF), with Environment Southland being the lead agency, supported by key stakeholders including Invercargill City Council, Department of Conservation and private landowners.

The PDP project team, led by Scott Wilson and Tracy Singson, are undertaking the DSI to delineate the extent and characterise the contamination status of the landfill and to inform sustainable remedial options focusing on mitigating the potential risks posed by the exposed portion of landfill potentially eroding into Foveaux Strait.

As part of the project, our coastal team will carry out coastal hazard and risk assessment to investigate the potential impacts to the coastline of sea level changes (if any) over time and its potential effects to the erosion of landfill material.
