The nature of our work sometimes involves staff visiting sites with some form of moving water – such as rivers.  Therefore it is important that our staff are armed with the right knowledge and skills to keep themselves safe while working in this type of environment.

Recently a number of our field staff attended a Swiftwater training course.  The course is conducted by SARINZ, with the practical portion being held at the Wero Whitewater Park.

The purpose of the course is to learn how to stay safe around moving water, providing basic safety and rescue skills.  It teaches important practical skills such as spinal rolls, defensive swimming, aggressive swimming, river/floor water crossing and use of a throw bag.

The team had a great day in the water, and enjoyed the opportunity to put the skills learned into practice.
