Rotoma / Rotoiti WWTP & Land Disposal System – Concept Design

Client: Rotorua Lakes Council
Date: 2014 – 2020
We investigated options for a sewerage scheme for the lakeside communities of Rotoiti and Rotoma and subsequently developed a concept design for a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and a land discharge system utilising a chemically assisted membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology and disposal to a rapid infiltration trench system.
We have subsequently undertaken the detailed design of the wastewater collection and conveyance system which has utilised a septic tank effluent pump system and a series of transfer pump stations and rising mains. We have also undertaken the detailed design of a UV disinfection system to allow for offsite beneficial reuse of the treated effluent from the MBR based WWTP. A feature of the project has been the development of the options, design and construction requirements to align closely with local iwi values.
Key Aspects:
- Options assessment
- Concept development
- Stage 2 hydrogeological Investigation
- Technical consent assistance
- Detailed design of reticulation
- UV disinfection
