PFAS and Emerging Contaminant Investigations

We have been a key consultant in multiple per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) investigations for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).  We are at the forefront of PFAS investigations in New Zealand and are knowledge leaders in this field.

We have experience in investigating and assessing PFAS contamination and leads the development of knowledge in the behaviour, fate, and transport of PFAS under New Zealand hydro-geological and geological conditions.

Our team can provide comprehensive investigations of PFAS and other emerging contaminants to inform site-specific management requirements.  As part of our long-term work for NZDF, we have completed a variety of investigations including the collection and analysis of samples from a wide variety of media including water, soil, sediment, plant and animal tissue, and firefighting foam concentrate.

We prepared the specification for investigating PFAS contaminated sites at NZDF.  The work included preparing reporting, conceptual site models, figure templates and map documents.  We convened a team of external consultants to contribute to the preparation of the specification and templates including chairing a series of workshops.  

We lead a team of external consultants in a nationwide PFAS sampling programme over several years.  The programme involved the development of an environmental sampling database and spatial mapping of data (GIS database).

Several reports were produced including Comprehensive Site Investigation Reports (CSIR) which investigate the potential of PFAS contamination of groundwater, surface water ad biota associated with PFAS.  As part of that work, we modelled the existing and future PFAS plumes with the assistance of a 3D groundwater flow and solute transport model.
