Senior Freshwater Ecologist 

Marty is a freshwater ecologist with over 40 years of experience in science and consulting in New Zealand and specialises in the ecology and biology of freshwater fish.  His career has included a wide variety of projects on the habitat requirements of endangered fish, preparing guidelines for fish screening at intakes, the use of electrofishing sampling techniques in freshwater, and assessments of environmental effects. Marty has frequently prepared and presented expert evidence for Resource Consent Hearings and Environment Court.

Over his career, Marty has experienced working in waterways throughout New Zealand with a wide range of clients and stakeholders. In the past he has also had responsibilities for managing science staff and overseeing large multi-disciplinary projects, and in his role with PDP he provides assistance and mentoring for other freshwater ecologists.
